Weekly highlight: VMware Workspace ONE UEM Guidance on packaging MSIX and APPX applications. (94580) - VMware Workspace ONE UEM allows admins to manage modern Windows applications like MSIX and APPX packages. Although Microsoft Store for Business and Microsoft Store for Education were retired in March 2023, MSIX and APPX packages can still be retrieved from Microsoft store. While these can be successfully deployed using UEM, UEM will not query or report the install status for such applications that are retrieved from the MSFT store. Because of this, administrators will not be able to see the right installation status for these applications in the UEM Console.
- The recommendation is to use MSIX Packaging Tool to package existing desktop applications into MSIX and to use Visual Studio to generate APPX packages. This will ensure accurate reporting of the installation status of such packaged applications deployed using UEM.
Automated Device Enrollment fails on macOS 14 Sonoma if Custom Enrollment is disabled (94577) - When attempting an Automated Device Enrollment (formerly referred to as DEP enrollment) on macOS 14 Sonoma, enrollment will fail if the setting "Custom Enrollment" is disabled in the DEP Profile in Workspace ONE UEM. When the device is first turned on and proceeds in the Setup Assistant to the "Remote Management" screen, the device will receive the error "Enrolling with management server failed." before user authentication takes place.
Note: If "Custom Enrollment" is enabled in the DEP Profile in Workspace ONE UEM, Automated Device Enrollment completes as expected on macOS 14 Sonoma.
