Introducing WS1 UEM Next-Gen SaaS: Device List View, Resource Delivery and Deployment Tracking Modernization Improvements in UAT (CN135) (94042)

  • Modernized Architecture
You have likely been hearing about the journey VMware Workspace ONE has been on with respect to microservices and modernizing the Workspace ONE UEM architecture. Well, It is finally time for the rubber to meet the road. VMware is excited to announce that the resource management & tracking improvements, the first major feature-based milestone in the Workspace ONE UEM Modernization Journey, is now available for customer testing. These improvements will be enabled in limited testing environments (CN135) starting on Monday August 21, 2023.
  • Resource deployment improvements : This improvement will be the first transition into a pull-based resourcing model where entire devices fleets can consume commands in a defined check-in interval (4-hours) versus the previous method which was inefficient and resulted in significant queueing and communication overhead. In large deployments this can yield improvements in the range of 10X the speed of the legacy deployment method lowing deployments that took weeks into hours. Additionally for fast lane/VIP scenarios there is still the legacy flow which defaults back at any deployment with less than 2,000 devices.
  • Improved Resource Delivery Tracking Experiences: In addition to the delivery improvements this update comes with a major overhaul to the UI and how resources are being tracked. Some of the most impactful features you will notice will be estimates of when devices will receive the resourcing deployments and a new category called pending device check-in, aligned to the new model of pull-based resource delivery. There will also be new installation status detail such as prompting and download in progress which will give even more insight into the exact state of the deployment at any given moment. And finally, for the first time, we are introducing deployment tracking views to Profiles which will ensure they align seamlessly with the experience of Applications.

Release Updates Week 33:

Workspace ONE Web for iOS 23.08

  • IBRW-175103: App Experience - Configuration for page text zoom percentage
    • This provides an option for end user to configure a page zoom percentage for all the websites loaded within WS1 Web.
  • IBRW-175257: Rage Shake switch should be enabled on updating KVP DisableRageShake from True to False
  • IBRW-174818: Download toolbar UI enhancements
  • Bug Fixes

Workspace ONE Content for Android 23.08 - staged

  • Support for Draft files- This feature will allow users to create edits to the pdf, office files and save them as a local copy as draft file.

Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub for Android 23.07

  • Android 14 Support: See Getting Ready for Android 14 (2023).
  • Support for shared devices with Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) Conditional Access: Workspace ONE UEM 2306 and higher is required for this feature.
  • Non-critical Device Actions in Hub: We are introducing the following non-critical actions which can be executed by the user remotely on any of the enrolled devices through the Hub Support tab - Make Noise, Change Device Passcode, Clear Device Passcode. This helps end users to execute these actions in a self-service manner when required, without requiring any help from the service desk or IT support. This requires Hub Services 23.06+ and Workspace ONE UEM 2302+.
  • Ability to Hide the Apps and Favorites Tabs: We are introducing the ability for the customers to hide Apps and/or Favorites  tab if their use-case requires it. Till now, Apps tab used to be always enabled when using Hub Services which will not be the case now. To hide the Apps and/or the Favorites tab, admins need to turn off the toggles in the Hub Services console for those tabs. If any of the other tabs are configured to be shown i.e. People, For You, Support, Custom tab, those other tabs will show without the Apps and Favorites tab needing to be shown. If the Apps tab is disabled but Favorites tab is still enabled, Web Links will be the only feature visible on the Favorites tab.
  • Bug Fixes

Workspace ONE Content for iOS 23.08

  • Support for Background Download in Managed Content - This feature will allow users to download files in the Content app while they work with some other app. In other words, when the Content app is pushed to the background, the download will continue to happen in the app.
  • Bug Fixes

KB Highlights & Announcements Week 33:

Entra ID (Azure AD) Compliance Status for Windows OOBE Devices is not updating properly (94036)

  • An issue was discovered with updating the compliance status of Windows OOBE enrolled devices through our integration with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) partner compliance.  The compliance state would sync properly, but would be reset to 'N/A' each night.  This issue only occurred when Microsoft Defender for Endpoint security settings management is configured in the Microsoft Intune admin center.
  • An issue was discovered in Microsoft's backend, and the fix has already been rolled out.

Upcoming Changes to Android Public Applications (93986)

  • Workspace ONE UEM pushes Public Applications to Android devices through Managed Google Play Store. To do so, it leverages Google's Play EMM API. In 2022, Google announced significant changes in this API that streamline application management and provisioning. Upcoming versions of Workspace ONE UEM will support these new APIs. No action is required from Workspace ONE UEM customers at this time. A release version for this update will be provided through this article and Workspace ONE UEM release notes.

ESC-40807 - Workspace ONE UEM - VPP "Sync Assets" stuck at "Sync in progress" (94006)

  • You may experience an issue where the VPP Purchased Applications Sync Assets operation fails to complete intermittently, with the status remaining stuck at Sync In Progress for an extended period of time (over 1 hour). This issue is observed in VMware cloud-hosted (SaaS) environments only.
  • An update was made to the SaaS platform to mitigate impact of a code-signing certificate expiration (KB 93877 ) and thus ensure service uptime. This resulted in an application code issue which causes intermittent failure of the VPP licenses sync workflow. This issue will be addressed through a future patch update to Workspace ONE UEM. When the patch is released, customers may schedule a patch upgrade as needed.
