VMware EUC Newsletter - Week 29

Weekly highlight:

Apple Business Manager Update - Updated agreement

  • On July 27, 2023, Apple will post an updated version of the Volume Content Terms to Apple Business Manager. Once posted, your organization will not be able to enroll devices or deploy new apps until an Administrator signs in to Apple Business Manager and accepts the agreement.
  • With this update, an Administrator will be able to accept the Volume Content Terms on behalf of the entire organization. Content Managers and Administrators will no longer be prompted to accept the Volume Content Terms in their individual capacities after an Administrator accepts the terms on behalf of the organization.
  • Additionally, the Volume Content Terms includes clarifying language with respect to redeeming unused Volume Content balances.
  • You can preview the updated Volume Content Terms now.

KB Highlights & Announcements Week 29:

Trusted Network Detection on Windows 10 (93457)

  • VMware Tunnel is connected even when the device is on corporate network and has access to all the internal resources.
  • Trusted Network Detection on Windows 10
  • For Windows 10 devices, Trusted Network Detection is configured as part of the Per-App VPN payload, and can be configured leveraging DNS suffix or internal URL (probe URL)
  • Trusted Network Detection based on DNS Suffix
  • When using DNS suffix, Workspace ONE Tunnel compares the DNS suffix defined on the device against the list of trusted networks configured on the Trusted Network Detection field to determine if the device is on the trusted network or not.
  • Administrators can add a list of domains separated by a comma into the Trusted Network Detection field (see the following screenshot) and that will leverage DNS suffix. Workspace ONE Tunnel fails to connect when the device is on a trusted network.

VMware’s 2023 ESG Report: Driving Smart Impact

  • VMware is proud to share our 2023 ESG Report, highlighting our “smart impact” approach toward building a more sustainable, equitable and secure world.
As we navigate global challenges and persistent uncertainty, the need to move beyond commitments and deliver measurable results has never been more urgent. This Report provides transparency into VMware’s progress towards our goals, including reducing our own emissions on our path to net zero, engineering a more sustainable multi-cloud for our customers, empowering diverse and distributed workforces, and being a trusted supplier that ships more secure, privacy-aware solutions built on a responsible supply chain.
Each member of the global VMware team is reflected in its pages because our ESG impact is only possible because of their collective contributions. Read the latest blog from Nicola Acutt, VMware’s Chief Sustainability Officer and VP of ESG, to learn more about our progress.

Beta, Lab and Tech Preview Updates

Workspace ONE Tunnel 23.06 for Android

  • PPAT-12288: Added support for sending hostname in the PROXY action for Device Traffic Rule
  • Session MFA - Technical Preview (continued)
Session Authentication with SAML enables user-interactive authentication for Tunnel in addition to the existing certificate-based authentication in Managed mode. This leverages your enterprise Identity Provider where you may also configure additional entitlement restrictions and Conditional Access policies.

WS1 Intelligent Hub 23.07 for Android

  • Android 14 Support: You can now enroll and manage Android 14 devices through Workspace ONE UEM. For more information on changes in Android 14, see Getting Ready for Android 14 (2023)
  • Non-critical Device Actions in Hub: We are introducing the following non-critical actions which can be executed by the user remotely on any of the enrolled devices through the Hub Support tab - Make Noise, Change Device Passcode, Clear Device Passcode. This helps end users to execute these actions in a self-service manner, if required, without requiring any help from the service desk or IT support.
  • Ability to Hide the Apps and Favorites Tabs: We are introducing the ability for the customers to hide Apps and/or Favorites tab if their use-case requires it. Till now, Apps tab used to be always enabled when using Hub Services which will not be the case now. To hide the Apps and/or the Favorites tab, admins need to turn off the toggles in the Hub Services console for those tabs. If any of the other tabs are configured to be shown i.e. People, For You, Support, Custom tab, those other tabs will show without the Apps and Favorites tab needing to be shown. If the Apps tab is disabled but Favorites tab is still enabled, Web Links will be the only feature visible on the Favorites tab.
  • Bug Fixes

Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub 23.07 for iOS

  • Quick Actions for Enterprise Wipe and Delete Device
  • We are introducing quick actions into the Support tab for a specific device that has been previously found in the Self-Service Portal
  • This feature allows end users to go to their devices in the Support tab and take actions on those devices such as:
    • Enterprise wipe (remove management and delete corporate data from the device
    • Delete Device (delete the device from the Workspace ONE account and completes an enterprise wipe of the device)
    • Clear Passcode (clear the passcode of a target device)
    • Make noise (allow you to trigger a noise on the device)
  • To enable this, go to the current device in Support -> Current Device -> Preferences -> Toggle on Quick Actions
  • UEM version 23.02+ is required for the critical actions (Enterprise Wipe and Delete Device)
  • Hub Services 23.06+ brings support for the non-critical actions
  • You will also be required to have Critical Actions turned on. This can be found in the Hub Services Console at Employee Self-Service > Device Self-Service > Critical Actions. This will be coming to on prem versions of Hub Services later.
  • Bug Fixes
