VMware EUC Newsletter - Week 26

Weekly highlight:

Horizon Cloud Service next-gen 2306 (June 2023)

  • Horizon Edge
    • A custom role named Horizon Cloud Service is now available in the Horizon Connection Server as of Horizon 8 2306. This new role provides minimal licensing management permissions to the account used to connect the Horizon Edge Gateway to the Horizon Connection Server.
    • During Horizon 8 Edge onboarding, administrators can now select the capacity type that the Horizon Connection Server is deployed into.
    • Horizon Edge Gateways deployed in Microsoft Azure no longer require a Docker Bridge CIDR to be specified. This change has no effect on Microsoft Azure Edges previously deployed with a Docker Bridge CIDR.

Desktops and Applications

    • Pool Groups
      • In a dedicated desktop pool group, administrators can now control whether an end-user sees the pool group name or their assigned desktop VM name in Horizon Client. If an end-user is assigned multiple desktops in a single pool group, they always see the assigned desktop VM name.

Horizon Accelerator

    • The left-hand navigation menu has been updated to consolidate Horizon Accelerator pages into a single location. This update affects the following pages.
      • Operations insight
      • Provider (Azure) resources monitoring from console
      • Advanced assist feature

Monitoring

    • Administrators can now pause specific notifications in the Horizon Universal Console for up to 72 hours. This is initially available for the 'VM under stress for a Pool-template/Pool' notification.

Release Updates Week 26:

Workspace ONE Boxer for iOS 23.06

  • Quality improvements and crash fixes

Workspace ONE Boxer for Android 23.06

  • Quality improvements and crash fixes

Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub for Android 23.06 (staged)

  • Reduced minimum battery level for wiping and Enterprise Reset for Zebra devices: Historically, Workspace ONE UEM administrators have only been able to wipe or Enterprise Reset Zebra Android devices when their battery level is at 50% or higher. The minimum battery level is reduced to 5%. This minimum applies to unenrollment initiated by device end users as well as Device Wipe and Enterprise Reset commands issued by administrators.
  • Device camera for authentication with 3rd-party IDPs through Workspace ONE Access: Certain Identity Providers support authentication methods that leverage the device's camera, the most common being facial authentication. For organizations who integrate with 3rd-party IDPs through Workspace ONE Access, Intelligent Hub now supports launching the device camera for authentication purposes during enrollment and checkout of shared devices.
  • Device Actions in Hub: This feature allows the end users to execute 2 critical actions - Enterprise Wipe & Delete Device on any of their enrolled devices through the Hub Support tab. This helps end users to execute these actions in a self-service manner if required without requiring any help from the service desk.
  • Bug Fixes

Workspace ONE Web for Android 23.06 (staged)

  • ABRW-175144: Configuration for page text zoom percentage.
    • This New Custom Setting has been introduced to set zoom percentage of text on webpage in range of 50% & 200%. Default text zoom percentage remains at 100%.
  • ABRW-174890: Standardise support options across iOS and Android.
    • Removed inconsistency for few Support screen options between iOS & Android Workspace ONE Web for Rage Shake
  • Bug Fixes

KB Highlights & Announcements Week 26:

Controlled Upgrade guidance for Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub for Windows (92111)

  • This documentation covers how a newer version of Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub (Windows) can be pushed to an end-user device which has an older version of the app already installed/enrolled, via Application Deployment Agent, also known as SFD.
  • Minimum Requirements
  1. Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub 21.07 for Windows and later
  2. Workspace ONE SFD component to be installed in the device.
  3. Additional Components:
    1. MSI package of the newer version of Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub for Windows (AirwatchAgent.msi)
    2. Product Code of the MSI package
Note: See the related information section for steps to retrieve the product code of your MSI package.
    3. AW.WinPC.Updater.exe
This executable is an existing and version agnostic component of Hub, which has been compiled in such a way that all its dependencies are bundled within itself.
      Compiling this way ensures:
      1. Upgrades won’t be affected by missing or misplaced dependencies since all of them are bundled within the executable itself.
      2. The executable is responsible for gracefully closing Hub services/processes before upgrade and restarting them after upgrade is completed. It would do the same in case of rollback.
      3. A very comprehensive log file is generated for each upgrade attempt.

Profile settings deleted when admin selects Add Version in Profile Assignment page (93162)

  • When an administrator:

·

    • Edits an existing Profile in the Workspace ONE UEM Console
    • Selects "Next" to move to the Assignment Page, where administrators can choose what Assignment Groups to push the profile to, among other settings.
    • Selects "Add Version"
    • Selects "Publish"
  • Some settings in the Profile may be cleared, and a profile with missing settings may be pushed to devices. Note that if the administrator selects "Add Version" in the first step of the Edit Profile flow, where Profile Payloads are displayed and can be configured, this issue will not occur. The issue only occurs when selecting "Add Version" at the Assignment step. Additionally, if the administrator selects "Back" after selecting "Add Version" (step 3) and before publishing the profile (Step 4), the issue will not occur.

Support for LTSC devices with Workspace ONE UEM (92979)

  • This article will provide a support statement for Windows 10 LTSC 2019 and LTSC 2021 with VMware Workspace ONE UEM 23.02 and Intelligent HUB 23.02.
Be aware that a different UEM or/and HUB version might behave different, and we'll only support on the best effort basis.
VMware is working on expanding the support for Windows LTSC versions, and this support statement will be replaced once the status changes.

macOS devices may continue to report the last status of a script after that script was unassigned (93046)

  • If a Script Resource was previously deployed and executed on a macOS device, but was later unassigned, the last reported status of that script may continue to report for the device in the Device Details page.
    NOTE
: In this scenario the script does not continue to execute, but the previously reported status is incorrectly reported after unassignment.

  • Support Access Policies for Customers with Expired SaaS EUC Licenses (89494)
In alignment with VMware's Corporate Standards and those of the industry as a whole, VMware customers who have purchased SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) licenses for EUC (End-User Computing) products can expect the behavior outlined in the KB regarding Support access when their subscription has a status of Active Pending Cancellation or Expired/Cancelled.
