KB Highlights & Announcements Week 25:

Getting Ready for Apple Major OS Releases 2023 doc is now live

  • Apple made several exciting announcements on June 5th, 2023, during their Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). They revealed the upcoming releases of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, tvOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS 14 Sonoma.
This document aims to provide clear information about the updates included in these releases and how they will affect Workspace ONE UEM.

ESC-39265: Multiple customers having issue with enrolling windows (Azure base enrolment device after upgrade to Workspace ONE UEM version 2204, 2212 and 2302 (93012)

  • VMware have observed that there is an issue with enrolling Windows devices (specifically, Azure-based enrollment devices) after upgrading to the following versions of the application:
  • Affected Versions:
  • Workspace ONE UEM versions 22.4.0.37
    Workspace ONE UEM versions 22.12.0.19
    Workspace ONE UEM versions 23.2.0.8

Device freezes after attempting to update App in Single App Mode (93010)

  • Updating an application that is currently locked into Single App Mode will cause the device to become non-responsive when running iOS / iPadOS 16.4 and above. Prior to iOS / iPadOS 16, the device would ignore the app update command while in Single App Mode and device operation would not be negatively impacted.

System apps unexpectedly disabled on personal side of Android COPE devices (93002)

  • Device that meet all of the following criteria:
    • Enrolled in Corporate Owned Personally Enabled (COPE) mode
    • On Android 11 and higher
    • Having Intelligent Hub 23.05 installed

may see system applications - those pre-installed on the Android device - unexpectedly disabled on the personal side of the device. Specifically, if an administrator pushes an Application Control Profile with "Disable Access to Denied Apps" enabled, system applications included in the Denylist Application Groups in Workspace ONE UEM will be disabled on both the Work and personal sides of the device. Furthermore, these applications cannot be installed on the personal side of the device through the Play Store. For COPE Android 11+ devices, the expected behavior is that these applications are only be disabled in the Work Profile.

Certificates Enrollment failing with permission error in WS1 UEM 2302 (92681)

  • This issue specifically affects Certificate Enrollment from ADCS in UEM console version 2302. When a user is enrolling a new device or re-pushing the certificate profile on the device, certificate Enrollment fails with the following error.
Error while loading the certificates: Access to the path 'C:\Users\~\AppData' is denied.
. Certificate Enrollment with other CAs is not impacted by this issue.

High Priority KBs

  • VMware Workspace ONE UEM New Control Plane SaaS Deployment Schedule (86243)
Workspace ONE UEM has undergone a complete re-architecture to modernize the platform using microservices and containers to enable increased scalability and performance and increase the rate of innovation. Now after having conducted significant and careful testing, these architecture updates, including a new control plane, will be deployed to UEM SaaS environments over the next several weeks, with options available to on-premise customers after this roll-out (Later in 2022).
  • Support Access Policies for Customers with Expired SaaS EUC Licenses (89494)
In alignment with VMware's Corporate Standards and those of the industry as a whole, VMware customers who have purchased SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) licenses for EUC (End-User Computing) products can expect the behavior outlined in the KB regarding Support access when their subscription has a status of Active Pending Cancellation or Expired/Cancelled.

Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub 23.06 for Android

  • Conditional access to MSFT Office 365 applications for shared devices: VMware has integrated with Microsoft to extend Workspace ONE UEM conditional access capabilities for Microsoft Azure Active Directory (AD), with support for shared device mode. With this new integration, IT will be able to provide shared devices with secure, conditional access to Microsoft 365 apps.
  • Reduced minimum battery threshold for Device Wipe for Zebra devices to 5%: Historically, Workspace ONE UEM administrators have only been able to wipe Zebra Android devices when their battery level is at 50% or higher. Since the Android OS manages power reserves for factory resets, the minimum battery threshold for the Device Wipe command is now reduced to 5%.
  • Enhancements to Conditional Access to Microsoft 365 applications in shared device mode (SDM): Additional device configurations are now supported, including Workspace ONE Launcher without check-in/check-out (CICO) enabled, as well as devices without Workspace ONE Launcher installed. Additionally, clearing accounts on check-in will retain the account used for SDM registration.
  • Device Actions in Hub: This feature allows the end users to execute 2 critical actions - Enterprise Wipe & Delete Device on any of their enrolled devices through the Hub Support tab. This helps end users to execute these actions in a self-service manner if required without requiring any help from the service desk and hence help reduce support requirement for such activities.
  • Bug Fixes

Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub 23.06 for Windows

  • DEEM: Synthetic testing for availability & response rate of URL/web resources & IP addresses

Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub 23.06 for iOS

  • (Alpha) Quick Actions for Enterprise Wipe and Delete Device
    • We are introducing two quick actions into the Support tab for a specific device that has been previously found in the Self-Service Portal
    • This feature allows end users to go to their devices in the Support tab and take actions on those devices such as:

·

    • Enterprise wipe (remove management and delete corporate data from the device
    • Delete Device (delete the device from the Workspace ONE account and completes an enterprise wipe of the device)
    • To enable this, go to the current device in Support -> Current Device -> Preferences -> Toggle on Quick Actions
    • You will also be required to be on the SaaS version of Hub Services to see this functionality and have Critical Actions turned on. This can be found in the Hub Services Console at Employee Self-Service > Device Self-Service > Critical Actions. This will be coming to on prem versions of Hub Services later.
  • Changes to the confirmation Dialogue for actions on Notifications
    • We are changing the functionality of the confirmation dialogue on notifications that have it configured to only show when there is custom text in the confirmation dialogue.
    • This means that Hub Verify Notifications will no longer have an extra confirmation dialogue.
    • For a confirmation dialogue to show up again please use the Notifications API to customize what the dialogue says then the confirmation dialogue will show up with the custom text chosen
  • Deep linking into Favorites
    • We are introducing additional deep links into the Favorites tab
    • Use the below to access the favorites tab as well as the create new weblink dialogue
