Weekly highlight:

Getting Ready for Apple Fall 2022 Releases

  • On June 6th, 2022 Apple announced at their World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) the upcoming releases of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, tvOS 16, and macOS Ventura (13.0). This document will provide guidance on all the upcoming Apple updates and any impacts this may have on Workspace ONE.
  • The anticipated release timeline for these updates is similar to previous years. We anticipate a mid to late September release for iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and tvOS 16, with macOS Ventura releasing shortly after in late September or early October.
  • The information on docs.vmware is derived from Apple’s WWDC information sessions. These sessions are available on-demand through Apple’s Developer Program at developer.apple.com. This site also contains information on how test the upcoming releases.

  • Removing the 3-Character Limit for People Search
    • People Search will allow searching with just one or two characters instead of the usual 3-character search. This enables support for searching names in logographic languages like Chinese, Japanese, etc.

Android Enterprise

  • Workspace ONE UEM now supports management of Android GO devices enrolled in Work Managed mode. See Integrating Workspace ONE UEM with Android for more information.
  • In Work Profile devices, the Hub icon on the personal side is now hidden. A grayed-out icon will no longer be displayed in the Android launcher outside the Work Profile.
  • In Work Profile and COPE devices, Hub no longer requires Location permissions to install WiFi profiles. Users with Android 12 devices in these modes will only see the Location runtime permission prompt if the organization is collecting location data from the device.

Workspace ONE Launcher 21.09 Release and Important Changes (85938)

  • Today, we're excited to announce the general availability of Workspace ONE Launcher 21.09. This update delivers significant user experience improvements for end-users and a permission grant user flow for the "All Files Access" permission.
  • This KB highlights some important changes that may impact device experiences.

·         Scoped Storage

Use the following custom setting profile to enable the permission grant flow for the "All Files Access" permission. This profile must be used for migration scenarios (OS update or Hub update) and pushed after Hub updates to v21.09.
<characteristic type="com.airwatch.android.agent.settings" uuid="568bc89d-1df8-4ce9-a041-e5a24acdb7df">
<parm name="EnableAllFileAccessPermission" value="True"/>
</characteristic>
Note: To minimize the impact of the scoped storage security change, VMware recommends upgrading devices to Launcher 21.09 before auto-updating Intelligent Hub 21.09. Learn more here: Scoped Storage on Android 11+ with WS1 UEM (85573)

End of Support for Internet Explorer 11 on Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub Web and Hub Services Admin Console on June 15th, 2022 (83271)

  • After June 15th, 2022, Users who access Intelligent Hub on Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) will not be able to see Intelligent Hub. Users will see a message requesting them to use Intelligent Hub on one of the following supported browsers - Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge (Chromium-based).
  • Hub Services announced last year that Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub Web and the Hub Services Admin Console will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) after April 30th, 2021. However, this was not enforced so a subset of our customers can get the additional time to plan and migrate users from IE 11.
  • We have now reached a critical juncture where we must require users to use alternate and modern browser options after June 15th, 2022. This also aligns with Microsoft’s announcement to end Internet Explorer 11 on that date.

Troubleshooting AppVolumes Disk Attachment Issues (88573)

Scaling on fonts not displaying properly on Linux VDI sessions (88028)

  • Desktops with a vGPU attached will have very tiny and blocky, almost unreadable fonts.
  • Desktops with no vGPU attached will also have tiny fonts but they are more readable.
  • Only with certain applications and fonts on Linux VDI sessions will not scale correctly.
  • We do not change the dpi in xorg, because for most applications , support is limited / dpi change does not work.
  • We change the system DPI in KDE config in $HOME/.kde/share/config/kcmfonts
